Colleen Winton announced as New Artistic Director for Western Gold Theatre

Colleen WintonVANCOUVER – Western Gold Theatre is proud to announce Colleen Winton has been hired as the new Artistic Director effective immediately.

Former Co-Artistic Directors Anna Hagan, Pamela Hawthorn and Don Mowatt have joined the board of Western Gold Theatre to assist in this important transition.

“We are very excited to have Colleen Winton joining Western Gold as our new Artistic Director,” says Robert Watts, Board President. “We are sure that she will be able to build on the past successes of Western Gold including our recent co-production of Old Goriot in the 2008 PuSh Festival.”

Winton celebrates a 30-year career which includes the Stratford, Shaw and Charlottetown Festivals, the companies of CATS and Show Boat as well as an extensive list of film and TV credits. Performance credits include: The Black Rider (November Theatre); Nothing Sacred, Guys and Dolls, and A Chorus Line (Playhouse); Shear Madness, Stepping Out and Dames at Sea (Arts Club); The Heiress (Chemainus Theatre); and Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Crucible and Burn This (Citadel Theatre). She has been an active member of The Shakespeare Project, the Vancouver Sondheim Collective and My Mother’s Story.

In addition to an active career as a performer, Winton has experience as a director and choreographer with various companies including Chemainus Theatre, Graffiti Theatre, Theatre Under The Stars and Showcase Theatre Festival where she was Artistic Director of the 2007 season. She is an award-winning artist who will bring her superb skills to leading Western Gold.
